Pleasant Point Wilderness Camps is now under the ownership
of The Chewonki Foundation.

The staff at the Chewonki Foundation is thrilled to become the new steward of Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camps formerly known as Pleasant Point Camps. We hope that you will consider a visit soon!

Fourth Debsconeag Lake is an extraordinary place. The lake and camps are bordered by almost 90,000 acres of preserved wild-lands. To the west is the State -owned, 43,000-acre Nahmakanta Unit and to the east is the Nature Conservancy’s, 41,000-acre, Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Area. These surrounding lands provide visitors to Fourth Debsconeag an unmatched wilderness experience.

Over the next few years we will make changes to the camps but rest assured that we are committed to continuing the tradition of quiet recreation that former owners Cliff and Mardi have initiated.

Chewonki is not a newcomer to this part of Maine. Since the early 1950s our groups have paddled and hiked throughout the region, and in 2002 we became the owner of Big Eddy Campground on the West Branch of the Penobscot River, a short raven’s flight from Fourth Debsconeag.

We are excited by the possibilities provided by Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camps, particularly the opportunity to offer wilderness experiences for girls. For the past ten years we have searched for a site to develop a wilderness-based program for girls. Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camps provides the ideal site.

  • We will operate the Spring and Fall seasons much as Mardi and Cliff have although this year we will only offer the housekeeping option.
  • From June to mid August Camp Chewonki for Girls will be in operation on site. We plan to open to the public the last week of August.
  • We will begin to take reservations in mid-March.

We look forward to meeting you and thank you for your continued interest in Fourth Debsconeag Lake and Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camps.
